Leighton Buzzard Theatre will have a full digital upgrade during September bringing it in line with the latest technology.
The theatre, which currently uses 35mm film equipment for showing films, will be upgraded to full digital projection allowing for a wider range of films and live screened events.
The new equipment is also significantly more energy efficient making it greener and more cost effective.
Central Bedfordshire Council has awarded the tender to Future Projections and installation work will be carried out between September 3 and 22.
All works will be carried out at the same time as the library upgraded promising less disruption to users.
Cllr Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Sustainable Communities (Services) at the council, said: "We’re delighted that Leighton Buzzard Theatre will be stepping up its services for the local community. We already know how well-loved the Theatre is and this upgrade will enable it to carry on showing a fantastic selection of films and other screened events, as well as helping us keep on top of rising costs associated with 35mm film equipment.
"The launch of digital projection equipment also means more opportunities for local sponsorship, both at film screenings and events, so we can offer local businesses a great opportunity to market to our residents."
