Cedars Football Academy launched in Leighton Buzzard
Cedars Upper School in Leighton Buzzard have announced an exciting partnership with Luton Town Football Club that will see students able to study for A levels whilst playing for the club in one of the highest youth leagues.
Luton were recently rated as the most successful club outside of the Premier League in terms of producing players to play in the top flight, with eight graduates from their Youth Programme playing the in Premier league, and two in the England sqad. Luton have recently signed Leighton footballer Jordan Davis (aged 16) who will join the club full-time in the summer and follows in the footsteps of another Hatters Youth Development graduate from the area, Kelvin Davis who currently plays in goal for Southampton.
The Cedars Football Academy is designed for boys who want to take A level qualifications whilst receiving a full-time football training programme. This gives players an opportunity to progress into the professional game but also prepares them to move onto university. The scheme is open to students currently in years 11 or 12 at schools across the region and will begin in September 2011. Students will study three A level subjects and will also represent Luton Town in the Conference Youth Alliance League, the highest ranked league outside of the pro-game for this age group in the UK. The school will employ an A-Licence coach and students will also access the Cedars Coaching Academy to take their own Level 2 coaching qualification.
The school is holding an open evening on Thursday 3 March 2011 from 6pm to 7pm so that interested students and parents can meet representatives from the school and from Luton Town. The first of three football trials will be held at the school on Wednesday 9 March 2011 from 2pm to 4pm. Students selected by the football club would then be interviewed by the school.
